Monikie Duathlon, Sunday 7 December 2008 (4km run/20km bike)
Hopes that the early morning text from the organisers would say the event was off were not realised; when the message came through said it the event was on and that conditions were cold and clear. It was just about OK, but they had to move transition and the finish down to the gatehouse as the park road was covered in ice. That meant a longer run and a slightly truncated bike course. There were four of us from the club although seven were on the start list, and the one who had exhorted us all to enter was one of the ...

The forecast wasn't great for Sunday but at 9am things were not too bad. A little breezy but dry. We set off at a very sedate 14mph - once we got out towards the bypass though this lifted to about 16mph. We had considered the idea of going as two separate groups but everyone seemed happy to go as one.&n ...

The planned route was to head out as a group to Thornhill where those that were on a shorter ride would turn off while the rest of us headed towards Callander for a coffee and scone stop. The pace out was nice and steady - 15-16mph which seemed to suit everyone and we made it to Thornhill as planned as well as picking up Catriona along the way. At this point Lynn, Rut ...

Given the mix of folk we opted to ride out as one group keeping the pace nice and steady. The route was to be out past Dobbies towards Doune, along Deanston Road. At the far end of Deanston road we would split and those wanting to do a longer ride wou ...

Ironman UK – Or, the Sherborne suffer-fest 2008!!!!!!!
Before I start, I won’t be conforming to the Stuart “Wordsmith” Prentice school of writing that works on the basis of 1 page for every hour of racing!
The road to Sherborne for me began last year, after IM Florida, which I enjoyed immensely (did I really say that!). Post race, after about 2 days of thinking, I decided I wanted to ...

Ironman Switzerland Race Report – Stuart Prentice
D Day – 13th July 2008 it’s 4.45am in the foyer of our hotel. Big John Salmons bounds out of the lift and strides towards me in his usual confident style and announces “Stuarty Boy, welcome to the shortest day of your life” How right he was !
It was now ...

Challenge Roth or how to swim, cycle and run at the same time...
The 13 of July must be a special day for mad people in the calender. How on earth could you otherwise explain that nearly a total of 10,000 people do the same crazy thing on the same day only within 500 miles form each other. Challenge Roth in Germany, Ironman Switzerland and Ironman Austria all took place on this longest and probably wettest day in central Europe. All of these races involved the same long distance of 226 kilometres - swim 3.8, cycle 180, run 42.2 (marathon) - all in one go!

Aberfeldy Sprint Triathlon Race Report 22/6/08
Stirling Tri Club cleaned up pretty comprehensively at this event, with three of the first five places and the two fastest women. The weather in the morning looked as if it would be dreadful for the race, but in fact it cleared up nicely in time for heat one with only a slight west wind.
Andy Turnbull won in 1.05.25 thanks mainly to blowin ...
